"An Artistic Discovery"
2008
I am proud to once again invite 8th Congressional District students to participate in the Annual High School Congressional Art Competition. This event is sponsored by the Congressional Arts Caucus.
This year's exhibition will take place at 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Orange County Administration Building located at 201 S. Rosalind Ave., Orlando, Florida, 32801. The event will be open to the public during judging. The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 6:30 pm.
During the competition, professionally-trained judges will evaluate the entries and select category winners and the "Best in Show" winner. Last year's "Best in Show" winner had her work displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building. As you may know, my office provides tours of the Capitol to hundreds of residents of the Eighth Congressional District when they visit our Nation's capital, but many are surprised when we point out student art work from a Central Florida student hanging just down from the Rotunda!
Prizes for past winners have included: free artwork framing, gift certificates, airfare to attend a reception and see their art work hanging in Washington, D.C. courtesy of Southwest Airlines and a $5,000 scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Artwork is due in my Orlando office by 5:00 pm on Friday, March 21. Please see the attached packet that includes the competition guidelines and entry form. The entry form is required for all participants. For participants in Lake and Marion Counties, drop off will be available in our district offices in Eustis and Ocala.
