Pa lawmakers respond to death of Justice Ginsburg
HARRISBURG, Pa (WJAC) — Pennsylvania lawmakers, from both sides of the aisle, are offering condolences to the family of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, following the Supreme Court Justice's passing on Friday.
Pennsylvania's Democratic chair woman, Nancy Patton Mills, released the following statement on behalf of the state's Democratic party.
Our nation lost a giant yesterday. Justice Ginsburg was more than a Supreme Court Justice — she was a champion of women’s rights, a trailblazer in her profession and an icon to women and girls across the country. Her contributions to American life will be celebrated for generations to come. We are mourning her loss and send our prayers to her family and loved ones.
Republican Congressmen Glenn Thompson and Fred Keller released similar statements following news of Ginsburg's death
Congressman Glenn Thompson:
"Having spent nearly three decades on the Supreme Court bench, Justice Ginsburg selflessly served her country until her very last days. May God comfort her family and bless her memory. My wife Penny and I extend our thoughts and prayers to her loved ones."
Congressman Fred Keller:
"Saddened to hear of the loss of Justice Ginsburg. For decades, she served our nation with distinction and honor. My thoughts and prayers are with her family."
Republican U.S. Senator Pat Toomey also released a statement Saturday.
"Our nation mourns the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Renowned for her legal intellect and sharp opinions, Justice Ginsburg served on our nation’s highest court for nearly three decades with distinction and honor. As just the second woman to serve on the Supreme Court, Justice Ginsburg was a trailblazer in the legal profession. While I usually disagreed with her legal and political views, she proved time and again that it is possible to disagree with someone without being disagreeable. Simply put, Justice Ginsburg left an indelible mark that will resonate for generations. I extend my prayers and deepest condolences to Justice Ginsburg’s family, friends, and colleagues."
