Money to be aimed at providing affordable housing opportunities

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Fred Keller (R-PA) announced Friday that the Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $807,996.00 in combined grant funds to State College.

The grant breakdown is $519,683 from the Community Development Block Grant Program and $288,313 from the HOME Program.

The Community Development Block Grant program provides annual grants to States and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.

The HOME program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to States and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.

On the award of the grant money, Congressman Fred Keller (R-PA) made the following statement:

“I thank the Department of Housing and Urban Development for awarding this grant money to State College.

“This grant money will go directly into the State College community to provide affordable housing and create economic opportunities for those in need.

“Families in crisis are looking for a hand up, not necessarily a handout. This money will go toward helping families achieve the independence all hardworking Americans deserve.”
