Says new rule on settlement expansion is in support of Israeli sovereignty

Washington, D.C. — On Monday, November 18, 2019, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the Trump administration is returning to the Regan-era policy of not viewing Israeli settlements in the West Bank—the areas of Judea and Samaria—as illegal.

In response, Congressman Fed Keller (R-PA) made the following statement:

“Israel is a strong ally to the United States and remains the only Democracy in the Middle East. I applaud the Trump administration for standing up for Israeli sovereignty in their homeland. The Jewish people are so-called because they come from Judea. They are not foreign invaders, they have a historical birthright to this territory. Yesterday’s announcement corrects the wrong that declared these settlements as illegal under international law and supports Israel’s right to determine their own homeland.”
