Congressman Keller opposes House Democrats’ Rules Package for the 117th Congress
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Fred Keller (R-PA) released the following statement in opposition to House Democrats’ Rules Package for the 117th Congress, which eliminates the motion to recommit (MTR).
“In her first day as Speaker of the House in the 117th Congress, Nancy Pelosi wasted no time attempting to silence her opposition by stripping the minority party of the Motion to Recommit, a centuries-old procedural tool that ensures that the voices of millions of Americans are represented. Holding the slimmest majority in modern history, Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats have reverted to rigging the system in order to maintain power and push through radical agenda items such as the Green New Deal, which would eliminate countless jobs, increase energy costs, and radically alter our American way of life. I fully oppose Speaker Pelosi’s shameless political powerplay.”
In the 116th Congress, Congressman Keller signed a letter alongside 110 fellow House Republicans urging the House Committee on Rules to protect the Motion to Recommit—as was the case while Democrats were in the minority between 2011 and 2018—and ensure minority party rights are not unduly infringed upon.
